Campus Construction Update for Week of Oct. 19-25

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

15th Street -- The road will remain closed between Lewis and Flint Streets due to city work at the entrance to Greenhill Cemetery. The Lewis Street intersection will remain open, and traffic will be detoured around the closure.

Service Building -- The parking lot north of the Service Building remains closed for resurfacing. Sidewalks grading will be completed ad paving will begin. Bradley Street is closed between 15th and 14th Streets. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Anthropology Building -- Work continues on the parking lot extension. Disruption to vehicular traffic will be minimal. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Half Acre Gym -- The sidewalk on the north side of the building is blocked for a construction staging area. Pedestrian traffic has been rerouted to the wide walkway north of the playground. A temporary partition has been erected toward the west end of the infield to protect the public from possible injury while the construction is ongoing. Project completion is scheduled for Oct. 31.

Wyoming Hall -- A remodel of the north wing on the fourth floor is in progress. Please use caution around the work area. The job has been delayed and will now complete by the middle of December. Several spaces in the east section of the Wyoming Hall parking lot have been blocked off for a construction staging area.

Fuel Facility -- Concrete and paving work continues on the new fueling facility to the south of CEP (Central Energy Plant). Gibbon Street remains closed to traffic from west of CEP to 19th Street. Access to CEP is from the north off Harney Street. Please watch for concrete trucks and heavy equipment in the area. The south parking lot may be accessed by traveling east, then south around the building. The construction and street closure will continue until project completion.

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report:

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- King Street and Sorority Row will remain open the majority of the time but traffic may be interrupted for construction activity. Work will continue on exterior concrete, irrigation, importing of topsoil, and planting material around the building site and in the mall.

Work on the building will continue on exterior sunshades, masonry cleaning and patching, exterior canopies, window trim and flashing. Work on the second and third floors includes window sills, electrical lighting trim, fire alarm devices, carpet base, restroom fixtures, cleaning, and air handler start up. Work continues on aluminum channels, drywall, and painting in east atrium. Work on the first floor, west atrium, and basement includes painting, window sills, countertops, ceiling fixtures, flooring, interior windows, and restroom fixture installation.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date: Fall 2010) -- Forming and reinforcing for tie-back beams for the foundation system will continue during the week. Metal stud framing will continue in the addition.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- Addition is proceeding along, tape and texturing drywall in the basement; installing drywall on the main floor; utility rough-ins on the third and fourth floors; and storefront installation on the fourth floor.

In the original building on the third and fourth floors, painting will finish up and installation of the ceiling grid and lighting will be the main focus during the week. The east end of the area between the Coe Library and the Wyoming Union will be reopened.

Student Health/Cheney International Center (Scheduled completion date: February 2009) -- Work continues on the exterior masonry. Student Health will be moving all day Friday from first floor and basement to the second floor. This will impact some of the Student Health functions.

Berry Center/Cowboy Dorm -- Pressure testing will take place on Lewis Street which will impact two fire hydrants for approximately 30 minutes.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The site excavation and shoring of the existing building foundation will continue. Work on the foundation will include rebar cages, caisson drilling, dewatering, and concrete forming and pouring. Truck traffic will be entering and exiting the site.

Centennial Complex -- Work for the replacement of the pre-action fire suppression system in the building will continue into November. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building. The Art Museum galleries will be closed through October. The AHC Reading Room on the fourth floor is now open.

UW Police Facility -- The old UniWyo Credit Union on the corner of 15th and Flint will become the new UW Police Facility. Staging for the contractor is in the north parking lot. Inside demolition is complete. Interior framing, electrical and plumbing rough-ins have begun. Concrete footings and foundation walls for the addition have been poured on the west end of the building. The contractor will be blocking the south alley at times for utility tie-ins. The construction completion is scheduled for March 2009.
