Campus Construction Update for Week of Oct. 5-11

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report:
(Note: Circle drive in front of Coe Library is closed Friday, Oct. 3, until 10 a.m.)

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- King Street will remain open the majority of the time but traffic may be interrupted for construction activity. Concrete site work and landscape irrigation will continue. Final grade and topsoil will continue and landscape planting will begin. The construction trailers will be relocated to sit on the pavement so that the recreation field can be repaired. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be maintained on Sorority Row. Work will continue on the exterior detailing. Interior work also continues throughout. The second and third floors are being finished first. Some finish work has started in the basement. Commissioning of the HVAC and plumbing systems is under way.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date: Fall 2010) -- Installation of drilled piers will continue. Installation of metal framing as well as mechanical and electrical rough-ins will continue on the third  floor of the original building.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- Addition is continuing along. The contractor is focusing on closing the building for the winter season. Emphasis will be on installation of glass on the fifth level and preparing the north side for glass installation. Drywall installation will be completed in the basement and move up to the second (main level).

In the original building, levels 3 and 4, the contractor will finish taping and texturing wall surfaces in preparation for painting.

Patterned concrete will be placed between the library and Wyoming Union on Tuesday. The circle drive in front of the Wyoming Union will be closed a couple of hours that day.

Student Health/Cheney International Center (Scheduled completion date: February 2009) -- Masons are completing work on the building exterior. Windows and doors will be installed by the end of the week. Second floor is almost complete with the exception of the conference area. Restrooms and janitor closet plumbing will be completed after flooring.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The site excavation and foundation work will continue. The fence on the west side will be moved out into the street to allow room for the heavy equipment. A large spruce tree must be removed for the basement excavation. Some of the sidewalk will be removed. Shoring of the basement against the building will begin.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the east and north sides of the building along Willett and 22nd streets will be completed this week. Parts of the east and north parking areas will be affected at times.

Centennial Complex -- Work for the replacement of the pre-action fire suppression system in the building will continue into November. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building. The Art Museum galleries will be closed through October. The AHC Reading Room on fourth floor is now open.

UW Police Facility -- The old UniWyo Credit Union on the corner of 15th and Flint will become the new UW Police Facility. Staging for the contractor is in the north parking lot. Inside demolition is complete. Interior framing has begun. Concrete footings and foundation walls for the addition have been poured on the west end of the building. The contractor will be blocking the south alley at times. The construction completion is scheduled for March 2009.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

15th Street -- Traffic patterns have returned to normal for vehicles. Final cleanup may continue for the next week. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around work areas if needed.

Service Building -- The parking lot north of the Service Building remains closed for resurfacing. Sidewalks will be poured and grading will continue. Vehicular traffic will not be affected. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Willett Drive Bus Shelter -- Asphalt patching and striping should be completed by mid-week. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Anthropology Building -- Work continues on the parking lot extension. Disruption to vehicular traffic will be minimal. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Half Acre Gym -- The Day Lot will be closed from Oct.1 through Oct. 6 for crane work on the HVAC project. The infield area will be closed Oct. 4-5 to set new HVAC equipment. The sidewalk on the north side of the building is blocked for a construction staging area. Pedestrian traffic has been rerouted to the wide walkway north of the playground. A temporary partition has been erected toward the west end of the infield to protect the public from possible injury while the construction is ongoing. Project completion is scheduled for Oct. 31.

Old Engineering -- The front entrance will be closed from Friday through Sunday to replace the stamped concrete. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed to the side entrances.

Wyoming Hall -- A remodel of the north wing on the fourth floor is in progress. Please use caution around the work area. The job will be complete by the middle of October. Several spaces in the east section of the Wyoming Hall parking lot have been blocked off for a construction staging area.

Fuel Facility -- Concrete and paving work continues on the new fueling facility to the south of CEP (Central Energy Plant). Gibbon Street remains closed to traffic from west of CEP to 19th Street. Access to CEP is from the north off Harney Street. Please watch for concrete trucks and heavy equipment in the area. The south parking lot may be accessed by traveling east, then south around the building. The construction and street closure will continue until project completion in October.
