Campus Construction Update for Week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report:

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- King Street will remain open the majority of the time but traffic may be interrupted for construction activity. Concrete site work and landscape irrigation will continue. The sidewalk next to the Chi Omega house will be closed and not reopened until the landscaping is complete. Final grade and topsoil will continue and landscape planting will begin.

The glass installers will be completing detailing, installing exterior aluminum doors, and installing exterior sunshades. Metal panels will be near complete with some detailing work continuing. Interior work continues throughout. The second and third floors are mostly painted and carpeted. The restrooms are tiled. The cabinetry is in place in most areas. Finish work in the atrium spaces continues with requiring a lift. The Central Machine Room (CMR) is sealed off from the rest of the building. The HVAC systems have been started and final cleaning has begun. Commissioning of the HVAC and plumbing systems for the remaining areas of the building is under way.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date: Fall 2010) -- Excavation will continue. Placement of drilled piers will begin later in the week. Interior demolition of the existing building will finish up. Mechanical and electrical rough-ins will start on the upper two levels.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- Addition continues along. Gypsum board is being placed on the lower level, glazing on the upper level, stone at the front, and miscellaneous work throughout.
At the third and fourth floor of the original building, gypsum board is being installed.

In the alleyway between Coe Library and the Wyoming Union, concrete pavement will be placed. On the south and west side of Coe Library, light base and light poles will be installed.

Student Health/Cheney International Center (Scheduled completion date: February 2009) -- Masonry work on the exterior will begin. Second floor lighting, restroom installation and floor installation will continue.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The site excavation and foundation work will continue. The fence on the west side will be moved out into the street to allow room for the heavy equipment.

Honors House -- Major construction has been completed, the house is occupied.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the east and north sides of the building along Willet and 22nd streets will continue through September. Parts of the east and north parking areas will be affected during the weekdays.

Centennial Complex -- Work for the replacement of the pre-action fire suppression system in the building will continue through October. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building. The Art Museum Galleries will be closed through October. The AHC Reading Room on fourth floor is now open.

UW Police Facility -- The old UniWyo Credit Union on the corner of 15th and Flint will become the new UW Police Facility. Staging for the contractor is on the north parking lot area. Inside demolition is complete. Interior framing will start Sept. 29. Concrete footings and foundation walls for the addition have started on the west end of the building and will block the south alley at times. The construction completion is scheduled for March 2009.
 

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

15th Street -- Traffic patterns have returned to normal for vehicles. Concrete is being poured in limited areas and should be complete by the first of the week. Pedestrian traffic is being re-routed around work areas.

Service Building -- The parking lot north of the Service Building remains closed for resurfacing. Sidewalks will be poured and grading will continue. Vehicular traffic will not be affected. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Willett Drive Bus Shelter -- Asphalt patching and striping should be completed by mid-week. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Anthropology Building -- Site work will begin next week on the parking lot extension. Vehicular traffic should not be impacted. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the construction area.

Half Acre Gym -- The Day Lot will be closed from Oct.1 through Oct. 6 for crane work on the HVAC project. The sidewalk on the north side of the building is blocked for a construction staging area. Pedestrian traffic has been rerouted to the wide walkway north of the playground. A temporary partition has been erected toward the west end of the infield to protect the public from possible injury while the construction is ongoing. The exercise equipment has been reconfigured and is available for normal use during the project. Completion is scheduled for Oct. 31.

McWhinnie Hall -- Tile installation in the south entry has been completed. Building access has returned to normal.

Wyoming Hall -- A remodel of the north wing on the fourth floor is in progress. Please use caution around the work area. The job will be complete by the middle of October. Several spaces in the east section of the Wyoming Hall parking lot have been blocked off for a construction staging area.

Fuel Facility -- Concrete and paving work continues on the new fueling facility to the south of CEP (Central Energy Plant). Gibbon Street remains closed to traffic from west of CEP to 19th Street. Access to CEP is from the north off Harney Street. Please watch for concrete trucks and heavy equipment in the area. The south parking lot may be accessed by traveling east, then south around the building. The construction and street closure will continue until project completion in October.
