Campus Construction Update for Week of Sept. 7-13

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

15th Street -- The following is a summary of traffic control measures on Willett Drive and 15th Street during the 15th Street construction project from Monday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 21. Message boards will be displayed with updated information at Willett and 19th and Willett and 15th. Traffic will be significantly impacted throughout the week. Please avoid this area as much as possible.

Monday, Sept. 8-Friday, Sept. 12:
-- 15th Street will be open both ways for local traffic only. No through traffic will be allowed.

-- Driving lanes on 15th Street will be narrowed due to construction between the Lewis Street and Willett Drive intersections.

-- One way travel for local traffic only will be allowed on Willett Drive between the intersections with 15th Street and 19th Street.

Westbound only travel will be allowed from 6 p.m. until noon the following day.

Eastbound only travel will be allowed from noon to 6 p.m.

-- Parking will be prohibited on the north side of Willett Drive from 15th Street to the Telecommunication Building adjacent to the Campus Greenhouse.

-- Signs will be posted at 22nd & Willett, 15th & Ivinson, and 15th & Lewis specifying "No Thru Traffic."

-- A flagger will be stationed at 19th & Willett to detour non-local traffic north on 19th Street.

-- Flaggers will also be stationed at the 15th & Willett intersection to direct traffic through the intersection.

Saturday, Sept. 13-Thursday, Sept. 18:

-- Willett Drive and 15th Street will be open for regular traffic.

-- Please use caution around construction barriers and cones.

Friday, Sept. 19-Sunday Sept. 21:

Starting at noon on Friday, Sept. 19, 15th Street will be closed from Gibbon Street to Ivinson Street for repaving, with the exception of local traffic to the Wyoming Union and Fraternity Row.
-- Access to the Honors House will be from the south only off Fraternity Row.

-- Willett Drive will be closed at the 19th Street intersection except for local traffic.

Physical Plant -- Work continues on the parking lot north of the Physical Plant. The lot should be completed and re-opened during the week of Sept. 8.

Little League Bus Shelter -- The pad and sidewalk for the bus shelter will be poured on Monday and the shelter will be set on the pad Wednesday or Thursday.

Willett Drive Bus Shelter --The pad for the shelter and surrounding sidewalk will be poured Saturday, September 6th. Asphalt repairs between the bus shelter pad and Willett Drive will be completed later in the week.

Anthropology Building -- The house on the northeast corner of 13th and Bradley has been moved and the lot is being prepared for expansion of the parking lot northeast of the new Anthropology Building.

Beta House --Painting of the fire escape is complete. The north wall should be completed by Tuesday.

Half Acre Gym -- The sidewalk on the north side of the building will be temporarily blocked for a construction staging area. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted to the wide walkway north of the playground. A temporary partition has been erected toward the west end of the infield to protect the public from possible injury while the construction is ongoing. The exercise equipment has been reconfigured and is available for normal use during the project. Footings are complete, and steel erection will begin Monday. Completion is scheduled for Oct. 31.

McWhinnie Hall -- Tile installation is complete except for the south entry. All floors are accessible.

Fine Arts -- Carpeting of public areas has been completed.

Wyoming Hall -- A remodel of the north wing on the fourth floor is in progress. Please use caution around the work area. The job will be complete by the middle of October.

Fuel Facility -- Concrete and paving work continues on the new fueling facility to the south of CEP (Central Energy Plant). Gibbon Street remains closed to traffic from west of CEP to 19th Street. Access to CEP is from the north off Harney Street. Please watch for concrete trucks and heavy equipment in the area. The south parking lot may be accessed by traveling east, then south around the building. The construction and street closure will continue until project completion in October.

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report:

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- King Street will remain open the majority of the time but traffic may be interrupted for construction activity. Concrete site work and landscape irrigation will be installed with final grading to follow. Exterior metals are being complete and detailed. The glass installers will be completing detailing, installing exterior aluminum doors, and installing exterior sunshades. Interior work continues throughout. Drywall finishing, painting, and ceiling grids are being installed on the first and second floors. Flooring installation and cabinet installation will continue.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date: Fall 2010) -- Demolition of the interior of the existing building will continue. Shoring and excavation operations will continue for the addition.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- Work continues on the addition involving most of the trades. Sky installation and curtain wall installation will begin this week.
Metal framing and utility rough-ins will continue on the upper two levels of the original building.
Sections of concrete will be placed in the space between the Union and Library with layout and possible pattern concrete placed toward the end of the week.

Student Health/Cheney International Center (Scheduled completion date: February 2009) -- Work continues with the extension of chiller lines on the north side of Student Health. The second floor painting and ceiling installation will be completed by the end of the week.

Honors House -- Work should be wrapping up by the end of the week. Sod ding will be installed late next week or the following week.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The contractor will finish demolition and clean up of the fenced area. The contractor will attempt to minimize interruptions to the surrounding area activities but dust, noise, and vibration of the building should be expected. The fence on the west side may be move this week or next to make room for caissons and concrete foundation work. Some signage will be in place next week to give the students a 'heads up' on what is going to happen the next few months.

Old Main Window Replacement and renovations at the Education Annex third floor, general classroom projects and Knight Hall basement -- Punch list items (final items to complete on list after walk through of a project) are scheduled this week.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the east side of the building along 22nd street will continue into September. Parts of the east parking areas will be affected.

Centennial Complex -- Work for the replacement of the pre-action fire suppression system in the building will continue through October. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building. The Art Museum Galleries will be closed through September and the AHC Reading Room on fourth floor will be closed through mid-September. Through Sept. 15 the Reading Room will be open and temporarily located in the second floor Stock Growers Room.

UW Police Facility --The old UniWyo Credit Union on the corner of 15th and Flint will become the new UW Police Facility. Staging for the contractor is on the north parking lot area. Inside demolition has begun. The existing drive through concrete demolition has started and will block the south alley at times. The construction completion is scheduled for March 2009.
