Campus Construction Update for Week of July 27-Aug. 2

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report for July 27-Aug.2

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date, fall 2010) -- Interior demolition will continue in the auditorium areas. Asbestos abatement will continue in the rest of the building.
Ivinson Street will be close on Wednesday and Thursday in order to accommodate a tap to the existing water line.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) --The Disability Support Services Lab and the University Testing Center have been moved to the basement of Knight Hall. The Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning has been moved to the basement of the Engineering Building.

Work on the addition is continuing. Brick on the south side and roofing for the 5th level will start this week. Work on the side walk on the east side of 13th street will continue.

Demolition will continue on the third and fourth levels of the original building. Also in the original building, asbestos abatement will occur at the main stair way. The stairwell adjacent to the entrance to Coe Library will be closed for about one week, to allow removal of the linoleum wainscoting that lines the stairwell. The lobby area will be open and the elevator will be operational. Other staircases available to provide stair access to the IT computer lab and to the stack areas within Coe. From the main level of Coe, the staircases in the 1978 (east) part of the building are located across from the reference desk and adjacent to the restrooms. Internal stair ways off of the main reading room, the current periodicals area, and the main floor study area currently occupied by temporary book stacks will be abated prior to the start of the fall semester.

Student Health/Cheney International Center (Scheduled completion date: February 2009) -- Work continues on framing for addition. Chiller lines are being extended. Second floor ceiling grid and lighting along with wall extensions will be installed. The elevator remains out of service.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- The parking lot south of the Fine Arts Center will be under construction until mid August. This section of King Street will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of this work. The paving of Sorority Row and the parking lot is scheduled to occur before Aug. 20. The both interior and exterior work on the building continues throughout.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- Drahota Construction will mobilize and fence the south west area of the building and a portion of the parking lot south of the Law building and east of the Fine Arts building. Site preparation and demolition could begin in early August.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 25, 2008) -- Second floor construction continues with punchlist. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot.

General Classroom Renovations, Phase 1 (Scheduled completion date: Aug. 25, 2008) -- Classrooms to be renovated this summer include: AG 1030 and 1032, RH 442, EN 1055, 3105, 3106, 2100, and 2102. Electrical and HVAC installation will continue this week. Staging area will take up two spaces behind the Agriculture Building.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 31.) -- Basement restroom ongoing with plumbing. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the west, north and south sides of the building will continue into August. Staging for the landscape contractor is on the southwest side of the parking lot.

Centennial Complex -- Work for the replacement of the pre-action fire suppression system in the building will continue through October. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building. The Art Museum galleries will be closed through September and the AHC Reading Room on fourth floor will be closed through the middle of August. From Aug. 4 through Aug. 15 the Reading Room will be open and temporarily located in the second floor Stock Growers Room.

Honors House -- The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Door and hardware will be installed on the upper two levels. Carpet and tile will be installed in toilet and sleeping rooms. Paint and texturing will continue on the lower two levels.

Old Main Window Replacement (Scheduled completion date: Aug. 31, 2008) -- Windows to be replaced on the first and second floor. Pedestrian traffic will be restricted on the sidewalk on the southeast corner of the building. The staging area is on the northeast side of the building.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Campus Parking Lot Striping -- Striping of parking lots is continuing for the next few weeks. This is the schedule for next week: July 28: Driveway between Ag A and Engineering, parking lot north of Ag C, parking lot north of Ag A, Aven Nelson lot off 9th Street, driveway between Knight Hall and Ross Hall, parking lot east of UWPD: July 29: parking lot east of Crane Hall and South of Corbett, Arena Auditorium east lot by the Rochelle Athletics Center.

Beta House -- Carpet removal and asbestos abatement will be ongoing in the Beta House for the next few weeks. Work on the main floor has been completed; access to the building is still from the north as construction moves to the next floor. This will affect handicap access. Please contact a department in the building to make arrangements for appointments or information needs, or call Disability Support Services at 766-6189. Other floors in the building will follow and work will likely continue for 6-8 weeks. Asbestos abatement work will be done in the evenings and on weekends.

Fine Arts -- The work on the irrigation well house has been completed and traffic flow has been returned to normal.

College of Engineering -- Elevator upgrades in the building have been completed, and all elevators are running normally. Concrete is being replaced in front of both entrances on the south side of Engineering. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around work areas.

College of Agriculture -- The east passenger elevator is offline for renovation. This project is expected to complete August 5.  Please use the west elevator during this time.

Prexy's Pasture -- Concrete replacement on walkways will continue in Prexy's. Pedestrian traffic is being re-routed around work areas. The third art installation on the northeast corner of Prexy's has been completed. The fourth installation will begin soon. Pedestrian flow may be affected around the work area.

Geological Survey -- The concrete walkway leading to the front entrance is being replaced. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around the work area.

McIntyre/Orr Hall -- The parking lot will be re-surfaced starting July 24. Vehicular traffic will be re-routed.

Student Health -- The elevator is out of service until approximately August 5. The majority of the building is offline due to the Cheney International Center construction. The east entrance is open for the remaining offices within the building. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need, or call University Disabilities Support Services for information.

Knight Hall -- The elevator will be shut down through the end of August for renovation. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. Accessible individual and group meeting spaces have been identified on the first floor of Knight Hall to accommodate individuals who cannot access the basement, second, and third floor programs. Contact the required department within the building to make arrangements for alternative access or contact University Disability Support Services for assistance (766-6189, TTY: 766-3073).

Central Energy Plant (CEP) -- Work has started on the new fueling facility to the south of CEP. Gibbon Street has been closed to thru traffic from west of CEP to 19th Street. Access to CEP is from the north off Harney Street. The south parking lot may be accessed by traveling east, then south around the building. The construction and street closure will continue until project completion in October.
