Campus Construction Update for Week of July 13-19

Facilities Planning Project Managers' Report for July 13-19

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled Completion Date, fall 2010) -- Exterior work, removing trees, pavement, and walks will continue. Stone removal on the exterior of the building will also continue in preparation of demolishing the auditorium portion of the building. Ivinson Street will be closed for 4-5 days the week of July 21 for utility connections in the street. Asbestos abatement continues within the building.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) --The Disability Support Services Lab and the University Testing Center have been moved to the basement of Knight Hall. The Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning has been moved to the basement of the Engineering Building.

The addition is continuing along. Work will begin on the penthouse roof and parapet walls on the upper roof. Masonry work will start on the exterior of the building. Metal framing, drywall installation, and utility work will continue in the interior.

Work on the chilled water line running along Sorority Row drive will continue and focus the area north of the College of Business. The lines will pass underneath 15th street using a boring technique and should not require closure of 15th street.

Paving on 13th Street is schedule for the first part of the week and the area will reopen by the end of the week. The north side of Ivinson at the intersection of 13th and Ivinson will be closed the day prior to the paving. A transitional area approximately 16 feet deep will be prepared and included in the paving work.

Demolition work is under way on the third and fourth levels of the original building. These areas will be gutted and turned into stack space.

Student Health/Cheney International Center (Scheduled completion date: February 2009) -- The boulders have been placed for the northeast section of the Student Health landscape. Formwork for the new ramp will be constructed. The new addition for the Cheney International Center also continues to be under construction. The elevator is still out of service and the second floor remodel for the ceiling and mechanical are under way.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- Chilled water lines continued to be installed on Sorority Row and are being bored under 15th Street. The domestic water line installation of King Row will start approximately July 16. The completion is scheduled before the end of July. The large blue crane has been removed and a smaller crane is on site for temporary use of smaller equipment. The backup generator will be tested around July 22 and will create a lot of noise and smoke during the test. The masonry is mostly complete around the building with only some detailing remaining. The glass installation continues throughout the building.

HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and low voltage wiring are being installed at several locations in the building. Drywall is also continuing in several locations. The raised floor has been installed in the Central Machine Room.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 25, 2008) -- Second floor construction continues with flooring and cabinets. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot.

General Classroom Renovations, Phase 1 (Scheduled completion date: Aug. 25, 2008) -- Classrooms to be renovated this summer include: AG 1030 and 1032, RH 442, EN 1055, 3015, 3106, 2100, and 2102. Electrical rough-ins will continue this week. Staging area will take up two spaces behind the College of Agriculture Building.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 25, 2008)
Demolition in the basement restroom is complete. Plumbing and framing continue this week. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway. Accessible individual and group meeting spaces have been identified on the first floor of Knight Hall to accommodate individuals who cannot access the basement programs. Contact the required department within the building to make arrangements for alternative access or contact University Disability Support Services for assistance (766-6189, TTY: 766-3073).

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the west side of the building will continue into August. Staging for the landscape contractor is on the southwest side of the parking lot. Exterior building metal work continues. Pedestrian traffic around the building will be closed at different times.

Centennial Complex -- Work to replace the pre-action fire suppression system in the building will continue through October. The Art Museum galleries will be closed through September and the AHC Reading Room on fourth floor will be closed through the middle of August. From Aug. 4 through Aug. 15 the Reading Room will be open and temporarily located in the second floor Stock Growers Room.

Honors House -- The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Painting and texturing is continuing inside the building. The installation of doors and wood trim has begun on the upper two levels. Installation of a foundation drainage system will continue on the exterior.

Old Main Window Replacement (Scheduled completion date: Aug. 31, 2008) -- Windows to be replaced on the first floor this week. The staging area is on the northeast side of the building.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Half Acre Gym -- Two sections of concrete walkway will be replaced near the northwest corner of Half Acre early in the week. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be re-routed.

Beta House -- Carpet removal and asbestos abatement will be ongoing in the Beta House for the next few weeks. Work on the main floor will continue through July 20. The main entrance to the building is closed, and access to the building is from the north. This will affect handicap access. Please contact a department in the building to make arrangements for appointments or information needs, or call Disability Support Services at 766-6189. Other floors in the building will follow and work will likely continue for 6-8 weeks. Asbestos abatement work will be done in the evenings and on weekends.

College of Engineering -- The east passenger elevator is offline for renovation. Please use the west elevator during this time.

College of Agriculture -- The east passenger elevator will is offline for renovation. Please use the west elevator during this time.

Prexy's Pasture --Concrete will be replaced on walkways throughout the week starting at the east end of Prexy's and continuing toward the west. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed around work areas. The third art installation is in progress on the northeast corner of Prexy's. Pedestrian flow may be affected in that area.

Student Health -- The elevator is out of service for 6-8 weeks. The majority of the building is offline due to the Cheney International Center construction. The east entrance is open for the remaining offices within the building. Call the Service Desk for information for deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need, or call University Disabilities Support Services for information.

Knight Hall -- The elevator will be shut down through the end of August for renovation. Call the Service Desk for information for deliveries of large items.
