Campus Construction Update for Week of April 20-26

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of April 20-26

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- At the addition, the contractor will finish installing the structural steel and decking for the south half of the penthouse. Form work erection and installation of reinforcing steel for the upper grade beams along the north wall will continue. The slab for the third level is scheduled to be placed toward the end of the week.

Door installation will take place on the 5th and 6th levels of the 70s portion of the Library.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- The building sheathing is all in place. The window openings are being covered with temporary material to keep the interior dry. Masonry work is underway on all sides of the building. Brick has started on the west and south sides. The roof installation continues on the east end. Window installation will continue on the first floor. Interior work sequencing is as follows: Light gauge metal framing is mostly complete on the first and second floors and is progressing quickly on the third floor.

Drywall will not begin until the roof is installed. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement, first floor, and second floor. Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the west side of the building has started and will continue though the first part of May. Staging for the landscape contractor is on the southwest side of the parking lot. There is concrete replacement in areas on the west drive that will continue for the next couple of weeks.

Honors House -- The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Framing will continue on the east and south additions. Waterproofing and foundation drain installation will take place around the perimeter of the building. Utility rough-ins will continue at the interior.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008) -- Construction ongoing with painting and HVAC. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: May 15, 2008)
Construction ongoing with carpentry. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway.

College of Business -- At the end of the spring semester, faculty and staff in the College of Business will move to the lower three levels of Crane Residence Hall.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Campus -- The chilled water system has been shutdown and will be down for approximately two more weeks. All affected departments have been notified individually.

Half Acre Gym -- The roof of the infield area is being replaced and an air conditioning unit will be installed. A fenced construction area with a pedestrian walkway has been set up on the east side of the building. Indoor air temperature may be affected as construction activities continue. Work will continue for the remainder of the semester.

College of Engineering -- The west passenger elevator is out of service for a couple of more weeks. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The elevator will be out of service for about two more months. Patrons are asked to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal -- Activities continue as needed. Please yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
