Campus Construction Update for Week of April 13-19

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of April 13-19

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- At the addition, steel erection will begin on the north half. The crane will be repositioned to facilitate the steel erection. Precast installation of the stair way near the existing structure will continue. The south floor slab will be placed and preparation for the second level will begin. The flooring and toilet room tile work will take place on the fifth and sixth levels.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- The construction fence along King Street has been moved back to allow more room for pedestrian access. The crane will be active this week moving items around the site and onto the roof. Masonry work is underway on all sides of the building. The roof materials arrived last week but installation was postponed to this week due to the weather. Glazing will continue on the first floor. Interior work sequencing is as follows:

Light gauge metal framing is mostly complete on the first and second floors and is progressing quickly on the third floor. Dry wall will not begin until the roof is installed. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement, first floor, and second floor. Work will continue at the third floor and mechanical penthouse this week. Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the west side of the building has started and will continue though the first part of May. Staging for the landscape contractor is on the southwest side of the parking lot. Concrete replacement on the west drive will start on Monday, April 14.

Honors House -- The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Framing will continue at the two additions. Utility rough-in continues in the interior of the structure.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008) --
Construction ongoing with HVAC work. Staging area will take up three spaces in the education parking lot.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: May 15, 2008) -- Construction ongoing with carpentry. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway.

Old Power Plant -- The first phase of the asbestos abatement is now substantially complete.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Campus -- The chilled water system has been shutdown and will be down for approximately two more weeks. All affected departments have been notified individually.

Half Acre Gym -- The roof of the infield area is being replaced and an air conditioning unit will be installed. A fenced construction area with a pedestrian walkway has been set up on the east side of the building. Indoor air temperature may be affected as construction activities continue. Work will continue for the remainder of the semester.

College of Engineering -- The west passenger elevator is out of service for a couple of more weeks. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The elevator will be out of service for about two more months. Patrons are asked to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal -- Activities continue as needed. Please yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
