Campus Construction Update for Week of April 6-12

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of April 6-12

ILLC (Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) -- Rough-ins for utilities will continue for Level 1 (basement) and start on Level 2. The floor slab for the south half of level 1 for the addition is scheduled to be placed during the week. Pre-cast concrete panels for a second stair tower are also scheduled to be erected.
In the 70s addition, elements of the mechanical system will be tested and balance. The painter will be touching up blemishes on the wall surfaces.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008) -- Concrete barricades and the construction fence on the southeast area of the site along King Street will remain in place for several weeks for construction of the concrete walls surrounding the chiller yard. The walls of the chiller yard have been backfilled. The construction fence along King Street will be moved back to allow more room for pedestrian access. All of the interior concrete slabs have been poured there is some minor detailed concrete work remaining on the upper levels.

Steel structure is complete but steel detail work will continue for about 3 more weeks. Exterior wall metal framing and sheathing will be mostly completed this week. Masonry work is underway at both the east and west ends of the building and will continue for several weeks. The roof installation starts this week and the duration will last for the next few weeks.

Interior work sequencing is as follows: Light gauge metal framing is mostly complete on the first and is progressing quickly on the second floor. The framers will be working at the third floor and roof next. Dry wall will not begin until the roof is installed. The window frames are installed at the first floor west side but the glass will not go in for several weeks. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement, first floor, and second floor. Sprayed on fireproofing is being completed on the upper floors which is followed by hanging supports for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Work will move up to the third floor and mechanical penthouse this week.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center) -- The Hilton Garden Inn opened for business on Feb. 4. The interior of the Conference Center was completed Feb. 15. The retail buildings are not part of the university's projects but information can be found at www.uwp-laramie.com.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscaping on the west side will begin this week depending on weather.

Honors House --The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Framing continues on the east and shout addition. Utility rough-ins continues inside the building.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008) -- Construction ongoing with low VOC painting and electricians. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot. The contractor will be using a crane on Saturday, April 5th. This will require the Education parking lot to be blocked off for safety reasons.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: May 15, 2008) -- Construction ongoing with demolition. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway.

Old Power Plant -- Abatement continues and this phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of next week.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
Campus -- The chilled water system has been shutdown and will be down for approximately three more weeks. All affected departments have been notified individually.

Half Acre Gym -- The roof of the infield area is being replaced and an air conditioning unit will be installed. A fenced construction area with a pedestrian walkway has been set up on the east side of the building. Indoor air temperature may be affected as construction activities continue. Work will continue for the remainder of the semester.

College of Engineering -- The west passenger elevator is out of service for a couple of more weeks. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The elevator will be out of service for about two more months. Patrons are asked to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal -- Activities continue as needed. Please yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
