Campus Construction Update for Week of March 30-April 5

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of March 30-April 5

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
Installing steel structural members and steel decking for the south half of the addition will continue. The portion of the grade beam along the east side of the Library will be formed and received concrete. Under slab utility work for the addition will continue.

On the 5th and 6th floors, flooring installation will continue as well as miscellaneous finish work.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete barricades and the construction fence on the southeast area of the site along King Street will remain in place for several weeks for construction of the concrete walls surrounding the chiller yard. The walls of the chiller yard are in place and will be backfilled this week. All of the interior concrete slabs have been poured there is some minor detailed concrete work remaining on the upper levels.

Steel structure is complete but steel detail work will continue for several weeks. Exterior wall metal framing and sheathing will be mostly completed this week. Masonry work is underway at both the east and west ends of the building and will continue for several weeks. The roof installation will occur during the next few weeks.

Interior work sequencing is as follows: Light gauge metal framing occurs in the first and second floors. Most of the interior offices on the first floor are framed. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement, first floor, and second floor. Sprayed on fireproofing is being completed on the upper floors which is followed by hanging supports for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Work will move up to the third floor and mechanical penthouse this week.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The Hilton Garden Inn opened for business on Feb. 4.

The interior of the Conference Center was completed Feb. 15. Minor punch list work will take place around the scheduled events and normal operation. The retail buildings are not part of the university's projects but information can be found at www.uwp-laramie.com.

The following information was provided by Commercial Broker's Alliance on March 12.
-Jimmy John's Gourmet Subs is open and doing very well.
-Grand Newsstand II opened Saturday, March 8.
-Tenant finish ready to commence for Great Clips and Union Telephone.
-Chili's plans to open in May.
-Carl's Jr. has submitted plans to the city and will break ground early April.
-Watch for tenant finish on McAlister's Delicatessen.

Indoor Practice Facility -- Landscape work on the west end of the building will begin Monday, March 31, and continue though the first part of May. The remainder of the landscaping on the north and south sides will start at a later date.

Honors House -- The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Framing for the east addition will continue. At the south addition, forms will be removed from the foundation wall and the floor prepared for concrete. Utility rough-ins will continue in the interior.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008)
Construction ongoing with low VOC painting (does not release significant pollutants and virtually odor free) and electricians. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot. The contractor will be using a crane on Saturday, April 5. This will require the Education parking lot to be blocked off for safety reasons.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: May 15, 2008)
Construction ongoing with demolition. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway.

Ross Hall basement hardware replacement begins April 1.

Old Power Plant -- Asbestos abatement continues.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week: Painting in the Union Ballroom has been completed.

The Campus Chilled Water Loop has been shutdown and will be down for approximately four more weeks. All affected departments have been notified individually.

The west passenger elevator in the College of Engineering is out of service for a couple of more weeks. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building has been inspected and returned to normal operation.

The elevator in the Bureau of Mines Building is out of service for about two more months. Patrons are asked to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
