Campus Construction Update for Weeks of March 16-22 and March 23-29

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of March 16-22 and March 23-29.

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
At the addition, steel erection will continue for the south half of the new structure. Preparation and placement of grade beams will continue along the west side of the excavation along the library wall. The ramp is scheduled to be removed. Placement of underground utilities will continue. On the 6th level of the 70's addition finish work will continue, primarily the installation of tile in restrooms and installation of resilient flooring. Trim out of the utilities will take place on the 5th level of the 70's addition.

The arc the crane requires to move material is along the east edge of the construction area. To create a buffer zone for this arc, 13 parking spaces will be taken off line and the pedestrian path moved to the east until the crane completes its work on the south half of the addition. The work should be completed on the south half in another 4-5 weeks.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete barricades and the construction fence on the southeast area of the site along King Street will remain in place for several weeks for construction of the concrete walls surrounding the chiller yard. Some of the walls of the chiller yard were poured last week. Additional walls will be poured this week. The fourth floor penthouse and stairs were poured last week. Structural steel is nearly complete.

Detailing and punch-list work will continue on several areas of the building for several more days. The big blue crane will remain on site until late March. Exterior wall metal framing is around most of the first and second floors. Exterior wall sheathing has started and will be complete around the first part of April. Masonry work is underway at both the east and west ends of the building and will continue for several weeks. The roof installation will occur during the last part of March.

Interior work sequencing is as follows: Light gauge metal framing occurs in the first and second floors. Most of the interior offices on the first floor are framed. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement, first floor, and second floor. Work will move up to the third floor and mechanical penthouse this week.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The Hilton Garden Inn opened for business on Feb. 4.

The interior of the Conference Center was completed Feb. 15. Minor punch list work will take place around the scheduled events and normal operation. The retail buildings are not part of the university's projects but information can be found at www.uwp-laramie.com.

The following information was provided by Commercial Broker's Alliance on March 12.
-Jimmy John's Gourmet Subs is open and doing very well.
-Grand Newsstand II opened Saturday, March 8.
-Tenant finish ready to commence for Great Clips and Union Telephone.
-Chili's plans to open in May.
-Carl's Jr. has submitted plans to the city and will break ground early April.
-Watch for tenant finish on McAlister's Delicatessen.

Honors House
The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. The east addition framing will be in progress over the next few weeks. The foundation for the south addition is also scheduled to take place during that time period. Miscellaneous framing and utility rough-in continues at the interior of the building.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008)
Construction ongoing with drywall and electricians. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot. uring the week of Spring Break, March 17-21, the contractor will be using a crane to do selective demolition. This will require the Education parking lot to be blocked off for safety reasons.

Knight Hall Basement Renovations (Scheduled completion date: May 15, 2008)
Construction ongoing with demolition. Staging area will take up one space in the Knight Hall alleyway.

Old Power Plant
Abatement continues. Removal, with the exception of the boilers, is at 75 percent.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
The Union Ballroom will be painted over Spring Break. There will be no access to the ballroom and persons with sensitivities are advised to be aware.

The Campus Chilled Water Loop will be shut down March 17 for pumping system maintenance. The shutdown will last four to six weeks. All affected departments have been notified individually.

The west passenger elevator in the College of Engineering is out of service for another month or so. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building will remain out of service for a few more weeks. One of the two passenger elevators should be used for deliveries during the down time. Call the Physical Plant Service Desk at (307) 766-6225 to make arrangements for delivery of large items.

The elevator in the Bureau of Mines Building is out of service for about two more months. Patrons are asked to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
