Campus Construction Update for Week of Feb. 24-March 1

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of Feb. 24-March 1.

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
Union parking lot will be closed Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, to allow the contractor to assemble a crane. Foundation wall work will continue, with forming the most of the rest of the foundation walls this week. Recast concrete units for the center stairs will arrive on site and be positioned. Painting on the upper two levels of the 70's addition will begin this week.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete barricades and the construction fence on the southeast area of the site along King Street will remain in place for several weeks for construction of the concrete walls surrounding the Chiller Yard.

The concrete slab on the second floor was completed last week. The pours for the third floor are scheduled for Feb. 22, and Feb. 26. The fourth floor penthouse is scheduled for Feb. 28. The wall of the Chiller Yard at the southeast corner of the building along King Street are scheduled for Feb. 26, Feb. 28, and March 4. House keeping pads and miscellaneous slabs are scheduled to be poured March 6 and 7.

Structural steel is nearly complete. Detailing and punch-list work will continue on several areas of the building for several more days. The big blue crane will remain on site until the latter part of March.

Interior work sequencing is as follows: Light gauge metal framing occurs in the first floor. Most of the interior offices on the first floor are framed. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement and on the first floor. Rough-in electrical conduits in the fourth floor penthouse slab-on-deck. Fire proofing of the steel structure occurred last week and will finish this week.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The Hilton Garden Inn opened for business on Feb. 4.
The interior of the Conference Center was completed Feb. 15. The first major conference event was held last week. Minor punch list work will take place around the scheduled events and normal operation. The artwork is the corridors of the Conference Center features stunning images of Wyoming wildlife and landscapes, most of which is by local artists.

Honors House
The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Interior mechanical and electrical rough-in work continues. Window installation has started and will continue. Installation of sewage line to the south to Fraternity Drive will begin this week.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008) Construction ongoing with framing and electricians. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot.

Knight Hall Window Replacement (Scheduled completion date: Feb. 25, 2008) Five windows remaining to be replaced, punch-list this week. The staging area is in the south four parking spots of the Hoyt Hall parking lot.

IPF (Indoor Practice Facility)
Work continues on interior punch list items and exterior trim work. There are no closures or detours anticipated.

Old Power Plant
Asbestos abatement continues. Additional electric has been installed. Boilers and pipes are currently being abated.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

The southwest corner of the parking lot north of the Fine Arts Center and west of the Law Building will be blocked off through Feb. 22 to service the pump house located north of the Beta House. The blocked-off area will be at the southwest corner of the parking lot and will affect one lane of traffic as well as the metered parking on the north side of the Beta House.

The west passenger elevator in the College of Engineering is out of service for approximately two months. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building will remain out of service for about one more month. One of the two passenger elevators should be used for deliveries during the down time. Call the Physical Plant Service Desk at (307) 766-6225 to make arrangements for delivery of large items.

The elevator in the Bureau of Mines building is out of service for approximately three more months. Patrons will be required to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
