Campus Construction Update for Week of Feb. 17-23

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of Feb. 17-23.

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
UNION PARKING LOT TO BE CLOSED MARCH 1 AND 2. The parking lot east of the construction site will be closed March 1 and 2, Saturday and Sunday, so the contractor can assemble a crane. Circulation will be limited to the drive along the north end of the parking lot.

Next week, the contractor will finish placing form work and reinforcing a portion of the foundation wall on the south and east side of the construction site. Concrete for the wall is scheduled to be placed Tuesday. Mechanical and electrical rough-ins continue on the 5th and 6th floors of the library. Gypsum board has been installed on one side of the framing and will be installed on the second side during the week.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete barricades and the construction fence on the southeast area of the site along King Street will remain in place for several weeks for construction of the concrete walls surrounding the Chiller Yard.

The schedule for concrete work has changed and is as follows: Feb. 19 -- pour second floor slab on deck west end; Feb. 21 -- pour second floor slab-on-deck west end. Forming and pouring of the foundation of the walls for the Chiller Yard will last throughout the week.

Structural steel is nearly complete. Detailing and punch-list work will continue on several areas of the building for several more days.

Interior work sequencing is as follows: Light gauge metal framing occurs in the first floor. Most of the interior offices on the first floor are framed. Main plumbing pipes, air ducts, and electrical conduit work continues in the basement and on the first floor. Rough-in electrical conduits in the fourth floor penthouse slab-on-deck.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The Hilton Garden Inn opened for business on Feb. 4.
The interior of the Conference Center was completed with audio visual and information technology equipment, window coverings, furniture, and artwork the week of Feb.11. The first event was scheduled Feb. 15. Minor punch list work will take place around the scheduled events and normal operation.

Honors House
The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. Mechanical and electrical rough-ins continues on the interior of the building. Foundation walls will be installed on the east side of the building and underground mechanical work in that area will take place during the week.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008) Construction ongoing with Framing and Electricians. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education Parking lot.

Knight Hall Window Replacement (Scheduled completion date: Feb. 25, 2008) Windows on the First Floor to be replaced this week. The staging area is in the south four parking spots of the Hoyt Hall parking lot.

IPF (Indoor Practice Facility)
Work continues on interior punch list items and exterior trim work. There are no closures or detours anticipated.

Old Power Plant
Crews will continue the abatement of asbestos for the next several weeks.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

The southwest corner of the parking lot north of the Fine Arts Center and west of the Law Building will be blocked off from Feb. 18-22 to service the pump house located north of the Beta House. The blocked-off area will be at the southwest corner of the parking lot and will affect one lane of traffic as well as the metered parking on the north side of the Beta House.

The Physical Plant has completed its survey of all trees between 9th and 15th streets for Pine Beetle infestation. Nine mugo pines and two spruce trees were found to be infected. Work will begin next week to remove the mugo pines in the Bureau of Mines and Cowboy Dorm area. The spruce trees will be removed once all details are finalized.

The west passenger elevator in the College of Engineering is out of service for approximately two months. The east elevator should be used while the west elevator is off line.

The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building will remain out of service for about one more month. One of the two passenger elevators should be used for deliveries during the down time. Call the Physical Plant Service Desk at (307) 766-6225 to make arrangements for delivery of large items.

The elevator in the Bureau of Mines building is out of service for approximately three more months. Patrons will be required to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, (307) 766-6225.
