Campus Construction Update for Week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2.

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
Shoring work continues and should be completed by the end of the week. Installation of drilled piers will continue for the foundations. Form work for the foundation walls will begin on the south end of the site. Interior framing is taking place on the 6th floor of the 70s addition. Rough-ins for mechanical and electrical systems is also taking place on this level. Demolition on the 5th floor and rough-ins for mechanical and electrical systems on this floor are also scheduled for next week.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete will be poured of the 3rd level shear walls on Jan. 25. Concrete forms will be stripped on Jan. 26. Exterior wall framing starts and steel stairs installation continues. Steel erection continues at third floor and roof. Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical installation continues in the basement and first floor. A Steel topping out ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The interior finishes in the Conference Center are in progress and are mostly complete. Wood trim is being installed on the lower parts of the walls. Electrical inspections for the finished areas will occur this week. Door hardware is 90% complete. Installation of the carpet will continue this week. The exterior signs are installed. Final pieces of the signs and ground lighting will be installed this week if weather permits. The AV/IT equipment will be installed after the carpet installation. The Hilton Garden Inn is in the process of installing furniture in most of the guest rooms. The retail buildings are not part of the University's projects but information can be found at www.uwp-laramie.com.

Honors House
The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. The project is scheduled to be substantially complete mid July of 2008. Interior framing as well as electrical and mechanical rough-in are proceeding on the upper two floors.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008)
Construction ongoing with duct work demolition and plumbing. Steam will be shutdown briefly Monday afternoon, Jan. 28. This will be a short enough duration that the temperature within the building should not be affected. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education Parking lot.

Knight Hall Window Replacement (Scheduled completion date: Feb. 25, 2008) Windows on the first floor and basement to be replaced this week. Replacement of windows will cause minor sidewalk closures around the building through Feb. 1. The staging area is in the south four parking spots of the Hoyt Hall parking lot.

IPF (Indoor Practice Facility)
Work continues on interior punch list items and exterior trim work. There are no closures or detours anticipated.

Old Power Plant
Additional heating equipment has been set up in the Power Plant and abatement continues.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building remains out of service for repairs. One of the remaining two elevators should be used for deliveries during the down time. Call the Physical Plant Service Desk at 766-6225 to make arrangements for delivery of large items.

The elevator in the Bureau of Mines building is also out of service for approximately four months. Patrons will be required to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

The McWhinnie Hall project has been completed. All access to the facility has returned to normal.

Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, 766-6225.
