Campus Construction Update for Week of Jan. 20-26

Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of Jan. 20-26.

ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009) Excavation is approximately 75% complete; shoring is complete except for the east side of the site. That work continues for 1-2 more weeks. The placement of the drilled piers for the foundation has begun and will continue. Forming of the foundation walls will start this week. Precast panels on the east side of the library where the new and existing structure link are scheduled to be removed Jan. 19 and 20. Demolition, electrical rough-in, and wall framing will be in progress at the fifth and sixth levels of the 70's addition to Coe Library.

Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete shear walls will be formed at the third floor level. Concrete slab on deck on second floor. Exterior wall framing starts. Steel stairs installation continues. Steel erection continues at third floor and roof. Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical installation continues in the basement and first floor.

UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The interior finishes in the Conference Center are in progress. The ceilings are complete. The final light fixtures will be installed in the seminar rooms. Walls are complete except for wood trim. Fire alarm test and HVAC test are complete. The ballroom is being used as a staging area for the hotel furniture installation. Door hardware is 90% complete. Installation of the carpet will start this week. The exterior signs are installed. Final pieces of the signs and ground lighting will be installed this week if weather permits.

The Hilton Garden Inn is in the process of installing furniture in most of the guest rooms.

Honors House
The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. The project is scheduled to be substantially complete mid July of 2008. Foundation work for the additions was delayed and will take place this week. Framing partitions on the upper two levels is in progress.

Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008)
Construction is ongoing with framing and electrical rough-ins. Staging area will take up three spaces in the Education parking lot.

Knight Hall Window Replacement (Scheduled completion date: Feb. 25, 2008) Windows on the first and second floor to be replaced this week. Replacement of windows will cause minor sidewalk closures around the building through Feb. 1. The staging area is in the south four parking spots of the Hoyt Hall parking lot.

IPF (Indoor Practice Facility)
Work continues on interior punch list items and exterior trim work. There are no closures or detours anticipated.

Old Power Plant
Abatement continues to be set up through the end of the week.

Test borings that have been conducted on several campus sites recently, have been completed.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building remains out of service for repairs. One of the remaining two elevators should be used for deliveries during the down time. Call the Physical Plant Service Desk at 766-6225 to make arrangements for delivery of large items.

The elevator in the Bureau of Mines building is also out of service for approximately four months. Patrons will be required to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.

The McWhinnie Hall lobby renovation project is in its final stage. Access to each entrance in the buildings has been restored.

Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, 766-6225.
