Facilities Planning project managers' report for week of Jan. 13-19.
ILLC -- Information Library and Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
Excavation and shoring continues. Work on the 5th and 6th levels of the library has started and access is limited to construction workers. Sidewalk on the west side of 13th Street has been completed and should be reopened the week of the 14th. The west end of the space between the Union and Coe Library will opened allowing access to the handicap parking in that area.
Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
Concrete will be poured on the east side of the first floor. Steel stairs will be installed up to the first and second floors. Steel erection is scheduled up to the second floor roof on the east side and third floor roof on the west side. Mechanical, plumbing, and electrical installation is scheduled in the basement and first floor.
UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The interior finishes in the Conference Center are in progress. The ceilings and walls are nearly complete. Testing and inspection of the fire alarm system is scheduled for Jan. 18. The last week in January will include the electrical inspection, heating and air conditioning balancing finals, carpet installation, and final wood trim.
The Hilton Garden Inn is in the process of installing furniture in most of the guest rooms. The furniture is currently being unloaded and assembled in the Conference Center ballroom.
The retail buildings are not part of the University's projects but information can be found at www.uwp-laramie.com
The Hotel and Conference Center is scheduled to open in February. Several of the retail sites are scheduled to open in early 2008.
Honors House
The Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 15th and Willett Drive is being converted to a home for students in the Honors Program. The project is scheduled to be substantially complete mid July of 2008. Foundation work on the addition will be taking place. Interior demolition has been completed and framing for new partition is underway
Old Power Plan -Asbestos abatement set-up has begun and the project will be completed by the first week in April.
Berry Center for Natural History and Conservation – Test borings for soil samples continue to be drilled in various locations on the northwest side of campus. Most of the parking spaces on the north side of Lewis Street will be available by Wednesday, Jan. 16. Areas around Cowboy Dorm (log building west of Geology Building) and the Old Power plant will be impacted through the end of the week. Holes will be repaired after the soil settles in a few weeks.
Knight Hall Window Replacement ( Scheduled completion date: Feb. 25.) Outside abatement and staging starts on Thursday. Replacement of windows will cause minor sidewalk closures around the building through Feb. 1. The staging area is in the south four parking spots of the Hoyt Hall parking lot.
Education Annex Third Floor Renovations (Scheduled completion date: July 2008)
Construction continues with abatement and electrical rough-ins. The staging area will take up three spaces in the College of Education parking lot.
The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities scheduled for the week:
The freight elevator in the Agriculture Building remains out of service for repairs. One of the remaining two elevators should be used for deliveries during the down time. Call the Physical Plant Service Desk at 766-6225 to make arrangements for delivery of large items.
The elevator in the Bureau of Mines building is also out of service for approximately four months. Patrons will be required to use the stairs for access to upper floors. Coordination of deliveries is being handled by WRI administration and the Physical Plant project manager. Call the Service Desk for information on deliveries of large items. For persons with disability access needs, contact the required department within the building to make arrangements to accommodate the need and take care of necessary business. Alternatively, contact may be made with the University Disabilities Support Services office.
The lobby of McWhinnie Hall is being renovated and will be inaccessible through Monday, Jan. 14. Access to the building is through the south or east entrances.
Snow and ice removal activities continue as needed. Individuals are reminded to yield to snow removal equipment. Information on areas of concern should be directed to the Physical Plant Service Desk, 766-6225.
