New Web Site Provides Construction News and Information |

|
In response to numerous inquiries by visitors, students, UW faculty and staff, a new Web site has been established to provide information and updates about the numerous construction projects taking place at UW. The site, developed as a cooperative effort among ASUW and Student Affairs, offers helpful links and information updates provided by the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Facilities Planning and the Physical Plant. The site is at www.uwyo.edu/ASUW/construction.
Project managers from UW's Facilities Planning Office have provided the most recent information about the following projects.
ILLC – Information Library or Learning Center (Scheduled completion date: September 2009)
Trenching across 13th street just south of the circle drive at the Wyoming Union should be substantially completed next week, and some parking spaces on 13th street will be reopened. The traffic pattern between Ross and Knight Halls will be restored to its original one-way route. Next week the street crossing should be complete. The north ramp will then be closed. Pedestrians may access Coe from 13th Street and a temporary ramp south of the evergreen trees.
Other major work activities at will include foundation work (shoring and drilled pier installation) for the addition; storm sewer installation between Coe and the Union; and vertical electrical conduits installation at the east addition of Coe Library.
Information Technology Facility (Scheduled completion date: December 2008)
The project started in August with the razing of the old Honors House. As of Nov. 15 the underground utilities have been relocated around the site so that the majority of the work will remain inside the construction fence until the summer of 2008. The foundation and basement are nearly complete. Water removed at the site has been re-routed from Sorority Row directly into the storm sewer. The big blue crane will be on-site through the completion of steel erection which will begin in the last two weeks of November. Large truck traffic for steel delivery and concrete will continue through the duration of steel erection and be heavier on some days.
UW Plaza (Hotel and Conference Center)
The overall site work is complete with the exception of some landscaping. The Conference Center exterior work is close to completion. The Hotel and Conference Center is in the interior finishing's phase which is approximately 50 percent complete. The retail buildings are being developed and built by a separate entity. The new stoplight at 24th and Grand has all of the wiring in place but the poles will not arrive and be installed until possibly December. The signs on the site are scheduled to be completed in January. The Hotel and Conference Center is scheduled to open in February.
Indoor Practice Facility
The landscaping and site work will not be completed because of the onset of cold weather and lack of an irrigation system to support the landscaping this fall. Much detail-related work remains.
Anthropology
The move into the Anthropology Building occurred during July and August prior to the completion of the building. Although not complete the building was still used for classes, offices, and most research and teaching laboratories. The contractor will remain on-site for several more weeks until all work is complete. The Anthropology Museum is currently in the design phase and is scheduled to be open in April of 2008.
Additionally, the UW Physical Plant Physical Plant will be completing a TVSS (transient voltage surge suppression) Project that will require short power outages to several buildings this Saturday, Nov. 17. They are:
1. Half Acre Gym from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.;
2. Ag C and Ag C Addition from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.;
3. Old Geology (S.H. Knight) from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.;
