Oct. 20, 2006 -- The University of Wyoming will observe "Campus Sustainability Day" with films and a panel discussion Wednesday, Oct. 25.
"An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's film on global climate change, will be shown at 4:15 and 7 p.m. in the College of Business auditorium. In between showings, from 6-7 p.m., UW faculty members will participate in a panel discussion about the film and the implications of global climate change.
Panelists are Stephen Gray, Wyoming state climatologist; Jacqueline J. Shinker, assistant professor in the Department of Geography; and Sarah Strauss, associate professor in the Department of Anthropology. Ample time will be provided for questions from the audience.
"If successful with its message, which is essentially 'don't eat your seed corn,' sustainability could provide every person on this planet with more money in their pocket, more time on their hands, better food on their plates and more to give to the next generation," says one event organizer, David Buth, a student in a campus sustainability course offered through the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. He says activities promoting sustainability are being held at universities throughout the United States.
The departments of Geography and Anthropology, the Haub School and the Ecology Program sponsor Wednesday's activities.
