Assistant Professor and Director of the George C. Frison Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology

RECENT AND UPCOMING PUBLICATIONS
My undergraduate degree is from the University of New Mexico and I have graduate degrees from University of Wyoming and University of Massachusetts at Amherst. My research interests include: forager subsistence strategies--specifically the role of non-big game resources in forager diets, technological organization--especially chipped stone tool modification and use-reuse, regional distributions archeology, archeology of gender, cultural evolution, peopling and early human occupation (Paleoindian) of North America, and historical archeology. I have been teaching anthropology and studying Plains and Rocky Mountain Prehistory at the University of Wyoming since 1988, first as an adjunct instructor and currently as an Assistant Professor.
I am pursuing my research interests through a number of archeology projects investigating Paleoindian occupations and human adaptations to Plains, Foothills, and Mountainous areas of the western United States. Specific sites and projects include: a reanalysis of the Hell Gap site, chipped stone procurement and use in the Bighorn Range foothills of north central Wyoming, blood residue analysis of stone tools, and the Middle Park Paleoindian Project. The latter is in a high mountain basin 150 miles west of Denver and just west of Rocky Mountain National Park, surrounded by many snowcapped ranges of the Southern Rocky Mountains. Recently I have been working with several Russian scholars, and plan joint projects and expeditions in the Russian Far East and Wyoming (for more information on the Russian Program, see the George C. Frison Institute).
On the personal side, I enjoy mountain biking and hiking in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter, all with my dog Marvin Hodder Belzoni, a German shorthair pointer. I also enjoy automechanics--especially working on air cooled VWs, Types I and II. Other hobbies include chainsaw wood sculpturing.
