Education and Background
1979 PhD Harvard University, Anthropology.
1975 MA Harvard University, Anthropology.
1973 BA University of Chicago, Anthropology.
Originally I am a "flatlander" from Kansas City
where everything is said to be up to date, but I
have lived in Laramie since 1980.
Research interests
My main focus is on Afghanistan and Central
Asia. I have also worked with Afghan refugees in
Pakistan. I have been involved in this research
area for over twenty years. In addition, I have a
secondary research focus on American culture
especially pageantry and performance events that
are part of community celebrations. Recently I
have started work on an anthropology and education
project. With a colleague in education, I am
completing an ethnographic study of a school -
university partnership.
Teaching interests
Anthropology of Religion, Psychological Anthropology, Anthropology of Gender, Middle East
area studies, culture change studies, writing and ethnographic methods
Personal interests
I am celebrating 25 years at the University of Wyoming.
