 Wool Judging Team

Being an active member on the Wool Judging Team is wonderful enhancement to a student’s education here at the University of Wyoming.  Students will learn to accurately evaluate wool based on both quantitative and qualitative characteristics.  This program instills qualities such as confidence, decision making, teamwork, leadership, dedication, and most importantly improved communication skills.

These skills help students to become more marketable to future employment prospects no matter what area of interest they are studying.  Wool Judging allows students to apply learned skills at National contests, and to meet with individuals from both the wool industry and at various institutions in which we stop and practice. Being a member of the UW Wool Judging Team is a great compliment to any student's education.

How do I get Involved?

The first step is to sign up for Judging: Wool ANSC 3550-02.  This class is only offered during the Fall semester. All class levels (Freshman through Seniors) are welcome.

How do I become part of the competitive team?

After being enrolled in the judging class for one semester, you are eligible for selection to be a member of the competitive team that travels to National contests during the following spring semester.

How does eligibility for the competitive team work?

A student is eligible to compete at Intercollegiate Wool Judging contests if they have been enrolled at U.W. for one semester and maintain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.25.  A normal Wool Judging career consists of one semester of class-work in the fall, practice and traveling to competitions in the spring. This in no way affects eligibility for any other Judging Teams at U.W.

Where do we go?

Currently there are just two national contest offered in the wool judging arena. They are:

National Western Stock Show

Denver, CO

Houston Stock Show

Houston, TX

Who are we looking for?

Wool Judging is open to all students enrolled at U.W.  We are looking for hard-working people with a competitive attitude and the willingness and desire to learn more about the wool industry. You DO NOT have to have prior judging experience to compete on this team.
