The American Studies program serves as an interdisciplinary location for the discussion of American culture by faculty, students, and the public. The Program dates from 1952, placing it among the earliest to offer work in the interdisciplinary field of American culture studies. We offer both B.A. and M.A. degrees in American Studies.
American Studies emphasizes the integration of the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences in the study of American experience, past and present. Each student combines an American Studies core with courses from throughout the University in an individualized program of study. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge outside the University through internships and field experiences.
Undergraduates – Coe tuition remissions
Graduate students – Graduate Assistantships, research support
– Peace Corps Fellowships
All students are eligible for internship stipends, support for international exchange semesters, and social project funding.
