Specific requirements for the undergraduate major in American studies are listed below.
Basic Courses:
(taken in the freshman and sophomore years)
AMST 2010 plus survey-level knowledge of American History (usually satisfied
by HIST 1211, 1221) and American Literature.
Writing Requirements:
University Studies writing requirements can be
satisfied with AMST 2010 and AMST 4985.
Advanced Courses:
(taken in the junior and senior years)
Upper-level American social sciences (12 hours)
Upper-level American humanities (12 hours)
American Studies (4010, 4020, 4500, or 4985)
Students may minor in American studies through a
program of 24 credits of study, some which may be matched with major
requirements in related disciplines and fields. For details, please
