Ghost Images: Corner of 2nd Street and Custer

On some of the buildings downtown, ghost images of old signs can still be seen. While the businesses have long since changed, a palimpsest is created by the worn signs of days gone by. History which has been almost lost from memory is allowed to show through in places. These ghost signs are a textual representation of a complex history. In preserving them, along with the layers of architecture, Laramie is preserving the history of a living city, rather than attempting to construct an image of a city that has never existed.
