Territorial Prison Postcards

The images of the Territorial Prison highlight that this is the one tourist attraction in the city. None of the images are highly imaginative, being simply straight on shots of the central building. These do work in the same way as traditional postcard images, being both an advertisement and a record of the attraction. For those who visit the Prison, this is an easy record of the place visited. They do not however show any of the costumed characters or the more appealing images that appear inside the Park. Instead these images are all as you see the prison from the road. The building that is photographed is that which is the most prominent and easily visible. Instead of these being insider shots, things you might see while visiting and touring the prison, they are mundane shots of the thing most visible to the passerby. This again emphasizes the place of Laramie on two major highways and it’s ranking not as a destination, but rather as simply one place among many along the road. [Picture, Ref 22]
