Scholarships available to resident freshmen

President's Promise Scholarship Program

The President’s Promise Scholarship provides a "promise" of at least $1,000 per year to eligible students.

Students must meet minimum cumulative high school grade point averages and composite ACT or SAT test scores (see grid below).

The President’s Promise is awarded in addition to a student’s eligible Hathaway merit scholarship. Any eligible Hathaway need-based scholarship dollars and/or additional UW academic scholarships awarded to the student (via donors, departments, etc.) serve to fulfill the $1,000 "promise" however. Questions regarding how other scholarships interact with this scholarship should be directed to the UW Student Financial Aid Office at (307) 766-2116.

The President’s Promise is also available to resident home-schooled students with a minimum ACT composite score of 27 or SAT composite score of 1210.

This scholarship is only available to first-time, entering freshmen seeking their first bachelor's degree, but is renewable for up to 8 semesters (4 years). Students must maintain full-time enrollment (12 semester hours) during the Fall and Spring semesters each year and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Trustees’ Pride Scholarship Program

The Trustees’ Pride Scholarship provides the equivalent cost of tuition and mandatory fees (up to 18 credit hours per regular semester), double-occupancy room, and the unlimited-access dining plan to eligible resident students.

Students must meet minimum cumulative high school grade point averages and composite ACT or SAT test scores (see grid below).

Scholarship commitments will be fulfilled first by any funds awarded through the Hathaway Scholarship program (merit and need), then by any other UW-based academic scholarships awarded to the student. No student shall be awarded scholarships that exceed the student’s total cost of attendance.

The Trustees’ Pride Scholarship is available to resident home-schooled students with a minimum ACT composite of 31 or SAT composite of 1360.

To apply for the President’s Promise or Trustees’ Pride scholarships, students must:

  • Apply for admission and be admitted to UW (www.uwyo.edu/apply)
  • Submit official high school transcripts
  • Submit official ACT/SAT test scores
  • Submit the $40 admission application fee
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Students are provisionally awarded scholarships by the UW Admissions Office shortly after being admitted. Final awards are made upon receipt of all final academic records. A student’s scholarship award may go up or down based on final GPA and test scores.
