Prospective Freshman - Admission Requirements
Assured Admission
To qualify for assured admission to the University of Wyoming, high school graduates who are first-time college students or college transfers with fewer than 30 transferable hours of credit, must meet the following minimum admission requirements.
Cumulative GPA and Test Scores
- Wyoming Resident: 2.75 and above
Non-Resident: 3.00 and above
Act: 20 or above
Combined Math/Verbal Score SAT: 960 or above
Completion of at least 13 high school units in the following pre-college curriculum (a unit=1 year)
Four units of English/Communication/Language Arts
- Three units must contain a substantial writing component
- Speech and other communication-based courses with substantial writing components may meet this requirement
- You may also meet the requirement by completing three units in
English/communication/language arts, plus two units of the same foreign language
Three Units of Mathematics
- Must include a college preparatory algebra I, algebra II, and geometry sequence
- Taking algebra II, geometry, or a higher-level math course is recommended during your senior year
Three Units of Science
- At least one unit must be from the physical sciences: physics, chemistry, or a college preparatory physical science course
- The remaining two units may be from any combination of biological, life, physical, or earth sciences
Three Cultural Context Units
- Selected from the behavioral or social sciences, visual or performing arts, humanities or earth/space sciences
Admissions with Conditions
Will be granted if you don't qualify for assured admission but can satisfy the following requirements:
- You must be a graduate of an accredited high school with at least a 2.5 GPA or a 2.25 with a composite ACT score of at least 20 or Combined Math/Verbal Score SAT score of at least 960. If you're concerned about your chances for admission, you may want to include an essay and letters of recommendation with your application.
- You'll need to complete the pre-college curriculum with no more than two deficiencies. No more than one deficiency may be in any of the four categories.
