How do I get to campus? Where do I park for freshman orientation? - Top
We're centrally located in Laramie, WY, and finding campus should be easy. For directions to Laramie, visit www.mapquest.com. For shuttle service to and from Denver International Airport, see www.greenrideco.com. Once you arrive you will want to park near the Residence Halls, located on Grand Avenue and 17th Street. Please detach your parking permit from your confirmation brochure, write your session dates in, and place it on your dashboard. If you prefer, you may park in the shuttle lots off 30th Street and Willett, then board the Union Express Shuttle which runs every 5 minutes. The orientation events will be located in the Wyoming Union, just off 15th Street. For a campus map, see www.uwyo.edu/tour. For shuttle details, see www.uwyo.edu/tap.

What are the housing and meal options? - Top
During freshman orientation, all students pay $60 for a double room and all meals. Parents and guests may select that option, pay $70 for a single room and meals, or pay $45 for meals only. Meals are part of the programming, so it is important to stay connected. Married parents who wish to share a room must each select the double room and meals (total cost for two, $120).
What can I expect from on-campus housing in the residence halls? - Top
All freshmen orientation students and the parents who select to stay on campus will be in McIntyre Hall. Students and parents will be housed on different floors, so don't plan to share a room. Instead, students will be randomly paired with a same-sex roommate for the night. Parents will have whichever option they selected upon registration: a single room, double room, or no housing. Parents who opted not to stay in the residence halls may want to visit www.laramie.org for hotel information. In the residence halls, you can expect sheets and towels, but you may wish to bring a blanket. Your room will have a sink, and bathrooms are down the hall. Also, be aware that rooms do not have televisions in them.
I live locally- do I have to stay in the residence halls during orientation? - Top
Yes, this is a critical component of the freshman orientation program. It helps you connect with your peers and gives you a taste of residence life, even if you don't plan to stay in the halls this fall. Many local students have been hesitant to stay with us in the past, but after the fact, they rave about what a great experience it was.
Are rooms in the halls available before and after orientation sessions? - Top
Maybe- please call Admissions at 1800-DIAL-WYO or email uwbound@uwyo.edu
to learn more about the availability of extra nights in the residence halls.
Can I pick my roommate during orientation? - Top
Let us pick for you! You'll have fun getting to know new people, and it is only for one night.
Should parents and families attend? - Top
Parents and families are welcome and find attendance very beneficial. Note that parents and students attend separate programming throughout the day, and parents do not attend a student's advising or class registration. Orientation programming is not designed for young children, so siblings attending may wish to bring quiet toys or books to keep them entertained.
Is it important to attend all the programming during my session? - Top
Yes, it is important for students to attend all the programming. You will complete all of the necessary tasks and meet your peers. Parents have the option to do what suits them best, however every session is valuable.
How can I get orientation grant aid? - Top
Students who fill out the FAFSA form (www.fafsa.ed.gov) and are Pell-eligible do not have to pay to attend orientation. Their expenses, and those of their family, will be covered by the program. Qualifying students will be notified by mail one FAFSA results are available, usually in the late spring.
Do I have to take the Math Placement Exam? - Top
Most students do have to take the MPE to determine which college math and science classes they may enroll in. In some cases, this decides whether or not students may take the classes necessary for a 4 year graduation in their major, so it is very important. Find details and sample problems online at www.uwyo.edu/mpe. Plan to arrive by 9 a.m. on orientation day 1, and don't forget your calculator, pencil, and $15 (payable at the exam).
How can I prepare for my advising appointment? - Top
Begin by reviewing the General Bulletin at www.uwyo.edu/registrar/bulletin. This contains the coursework necessary for every major, and it is essentially a contract between you and UW. You will work with an advisor to help you select the classes you need in the fall. Otherwise, the most important things to do in advance are:
-Find out if you need to take the Math Placement Exam at www.uwyo.edu/mpe. If so, prepare.
-If you have any transfer credit (community college, AP, IB, etc.) bring a copy of your transcript with you to orientation
-Relax and keep an open mind. Every student must complete University Studies classes. Even if your favorite classes are closed, don't worry- you'll get a schedule that meets your needs.
