Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) Project

The University of Wyoming is participating in a four-year longitudinal study sponsored by the Lumina Foundation and the Council for Aid to Education using the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) to assess student learning.

In 2005-06 (1st study year), we recruited 276 freshmen to participate. These students were administered the three hour assessment in two parts (performance tasks and writing prompts) during fall semester. In addition, 125 seniors were recruited to take one of the two parts of the CLA during spring semester before graduation.

In 2006-07, we retested 148 sophomores who were all part of the 276 freshmen cohort.

The final step in the longitudinal study is to retest a minimum of 100 students from our original freshmen cohort. To be eligible for the last round of testing, students must have been tested in 2006 and must be a senior in spring 2009.
