2006-07 Assessment Assistance Grants

 

Another $30,000 is available for the third round of assessment assistance during the 2006-07 academic year. You are invited to submit your project application by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006.

  • Proposals are limited to no more than $2,500 in funding.

  • All applications must be completed and delivered electronically to Academic Affairs before the established deadline. Send completed applications via e-mail attachment to Erika Prager at ekprager@uwyo.edu. To retrieve the application, click here and save file (Word format.)

  • While a variety of assessment related projects are encouraged, the ECTL and College Assessment Coordinators Committee are especially interested in the those which include any of the following:

  • Direct measures of student achievement/learning. (A direct measure of student achievement is “tangible, visible, self-explanatory evidence of exactly what students have and haven’t learned” (Suskie, 2004, Assessing Student Learning:  A Common Sense Guide, pages 95-96). 

  • Identification of student learning outcomes.

  • Analysis of a specific set of data aimed at assessing a particular goal or outcome.

  • Development of materials to communicate with students and other constituencies.

  • Projects using assessment data to make program changes.

  • Projects involving department or program work group, cross-department workgroup, cross-college work group or other collaborative efforts.

  • Successful applicants should anticipate reinvestment into UW’s assessment work by sharing the results of the assessment assistance with some part of the university community.

  • Preference will be given to new projects over continuations of projects already funded.

Project Development Process

Step 2. Complete the application as follows:

1.   Which level described below best describes your department/program and where are you with regard to overall assessment? Give some details of your assessment plan and progress to date.

A.   Entry-level assessment: Programs still in the beginning stages of assessment that may need assistance revising a departmental assessment plan, formulating learning outcomes or goals, or beginning an initial assessment project.

B.   Mid-level assessment: Specific projects to collect and analyze data for departmental, programmatic, or general education assessment.

C.   Advanced-level assessment: Programs wanting to take assessment to the next level, including the development of websites and other materials to communicate with students and other constituencies, using assessment to make changes to program, etc.

  1. What assessment projects or activities would your department or program engage in as part of this grant?

  1. How will these identified activities advance your department/program’s assessment plan?

  1. Who will be involved in the project and what commitment do you have from others to participant? Give some details about who will participate in the discussion stage and who might be involved in the implementation of the project.

Step 3.  Submit project proposal via e-mail attachment to Erika Prager at ekprager@uwyo.edu. Cc: your college dean and department chair on the e-mail.

 

Review & Implementation Process

  • The UW College Assessment Coordinators Committee will review the proposals and notify applicants by October 31, 2006.

  • If your project is approved, you must attend one of the two work sessions sponsored by the ECTL during the month of November. The goal of these work sessions is to help in developing a detailed proposal and accompanying budget.

  • Turn in your detailed proposal and budget by December 1, 2006.

  • Projects may begin immediately and should be completed by December 31, 2007.

  • The review panel will use the following criteria in assessing the proposals:

  • The identified project will advance the assessment efforts of the department or program.

  • Project participants are identified and their roles described.

  • There is commitment from the department/program in general to work on assessment.

  • The project has the potential to be a model for other UW departments or programs.

  • The project emphasizes one or more of the six areas highlighted in the call for proposals.
