Subject: Biology 1000 to be replaced by Biology 1003
Department
Heads,
Among other changes
in the Biology program, BIOL is being discontinued and replaced with BIOL
1003.
The rationale for
the change says
We propose to replace BIOL 1000 with a new course that will be a logical
extension to BIOL 1002 (Discovering Science) for non-life science major
students who want to take a biology class as their second science
class.
The course
description reads:
Emphasizes central themes of biology -- cell biology, genetics,
evolution, ecology -- and scientific methodology by focusing on current issues
in biology. Taught in 3 tw0-hour blocks of lecture/discussion each week,
with one usually devoted to laboratory explorations. Students cannot
receive duplicate credit for Biology 1010, 1000, or
1020.
If you require BIOL
1000 or have it has a pre-requisite to one of your courses, please let me
know. I'll send you a copy of the syllabus so you can decide if you want
to replace BIOL 1000 with BIOL 1003.
