VI.     Funding Opportunities

A number of opportunities exist for faculty to apply for special funding through the college. (See below.) Basic Research Grants are awarded each fall semester, and the college also participates in the NEH Summer Stipends.

A.     Basic Research Grants, Contact person: Greg Brown, Associate Dean (gkbrown@uwyo.edu)

The College of Arts and Sciences, through its indirect cost returns, has limited funds available to support research projects and creative activities of individual A & S academic personnel during the academic year.  Normally, individual awards will not exceed $3,000.  This competition is open to all academic personnel with tenure-track, tenure, extended-term-track and extended-term appointments; however, emphasis is given to junior personnel with research responsibilities and to senior personnel developing new areas of expertise.

Normally, complete applications must be received in the Dean’s Office at the end of the first week of October.  Please note that heads must rank all proposals from their departments. Academic personnel are encouraged to submit proposals to their heads by the third week of September (or earlier date established by individual departments) so that heads can provide advice about revisions.  The Central Committee ranks proposals, and awards are announced in early November.

The complete BRG application package is available on the web.

B.     NEH Summer Stipends

Contact person: Sharon Brown, Staff Assistant (sbrown@uwyo.edu)

The college coordinates proposals for summer stipends funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).  Faculty and academic professionals in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Fine Arts Divisions are eligible to apply.  The award amount is $5,000.  Announcements are made early in the fall semester, and the application deadline is late September.  A sample memo announcing the annual competition can be found at (NEH Memo.doc). The NEH Proposal Submission Process is available.
