M. Dane Picard is one of the preeminent geologists in the nation. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1950, later earning advanced degrees from Princeton. He is currently professor of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah. Besides dozens of research articles, he has written two books of essays, Grit and Clay and Mountains and Minerals, Rovers and Rocks, and published over 40 poems. Writing is an extension of his teaching. By writing about his love of the land, he can reach the nongeologist. |
