Through her dedication to charitable organizations, her interest in historic preservation, and her business acumen, Mary Ann Duffey has proven herself a true exemplar of a liberal arts education. She earned a B.S. in history from UW in 1966 and a master’s in history a year later. With degrees in hand, she accepted a faculty position at Northwest College in Powell and later a position at Laramie County Community College. After her marriage to John A. Duffey, she resigned to help him manage and expand the family business. The Duffey magazine distributorship eventually reached into three states. Recently, they sold the distributorship but retain and operate 13 retail book-and-magazine stores throughout the region. Duffey has contributed generously to the UW Department of History, and she sits on the Boards of Directors of "Strings in the Mountains," a musical festival in Steamboat Springs, and Partners of Larimer County in Fort Collins, a mentoring program for at-risk youth. |
