Duane Woodard

Through his accomplishments in law and public service, and his work in humanitarian causes, Duane Woodard’s professional career exemplifies the liberal arts education. He was a 1963 graduate of the Department of Political Science, and the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1967. In the last thee decades, he has served in numerous government positions, including the Colorado State Senate, where he was recognized as an outstanding legislator, and two terms as Colorado State Attorney General. He successfully litigated several high-profile antitrust, environmental Superfund cases and criminal prosecutions. During his public service career, he served on several national committees and received numerous awards, including the Colorado Civil Rights Commission Distinguished Service Award for Civil Rights; the Tree of Life Award from the National Jewish Fund; and the Special Award of Recognition from the Latin American Education Foundation. Mr. Woodard has conducted scholarly research and authored several articles for the Harvard Environmental Law Review; the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute; and others. Mr. Woodard continues his involvement with UW by serving on the Foundation Board of Directors, the A&S Board of Visitors, and the American Heritage Center.
