Cheyenne native Jack Speight earned a law degree from UW in 1965 after his undergraduate work. Before entering private practice in 1972, Speight was an assistant attorney general for Wyoming, consultant to Secretary of the Interior Stanley K. Hathaway, chief of staff to Governor Stanley K. Hathaway, attorney for the Reorganization Commission of Wyoming, and assistant United States attorney for Wyoming. Currently, Speight is a partner in the law firm of Speight, McCue & Crank, P.C.

Speight is known for his strong advocacy for the underdog. He has quietly offered pro-bono legal services to dozens of individuals and families over the course of his career, and he established and funded a family foundation in

Laramie County from which grants are used to meet the special needs of children and the elderly. Speight’s main area of practice includes complicated civil litigation. During his more than 40 years of practice, Speight has worked on landmark cases such as school finance litigation, lender liability, toxic tort litigation, and insurance bad faith grievances.

Speight has been listed in Best Trial Lawyers and Super Lawyers, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Law, and Who’s Who in Politics for 10 or more successive years.
