Heritage Award

People leave their imprint. Some do it quietly, some with fanfare. Regardless of the method, the world is different for their having been here. Often the world is better, even blessed, because of them.

Many people have left their imprint on the College of Arts and Sciences and made it a better place, a better college. Some of these we recognize as Outstanding Former Faculty, others as Outstanding Alumni. But there are people who do not fall neatly into either of these two categories, whose affiliation with the College has changed it profoundly. We want to recognize these people and the roles they have played in the history of the University and College.

We create the A&S Heritage Award to honor these individuals who have made a valuable and long-lasting contribution to the University of Wyoming and the College of Arts and Sciences. The person or persons to receive this award will be noted for their outstanding association with UW and the College, by virtue of their own achievements and contributions, or by virtue of their heritage and its outstanding legacy for the institution. At times, their legacy may lie in the past. Perhaps they played a role in founding UW or in guiding it through significant change. Perhaps their legacy is playing out now and its future is obvious and inescapable. We wish to recognize them and ensure that their contributions become part of our story. Through the Heritage Award their names will become part of our shared history.

The Heritage Award gives the College the occasional means to recognize individuals in a special and unique way—those who might otherwise not receive any accolades for their contribution. The selection committee may decide that more than one person should receive the award. The Heritage Award may or may not be handed out each year.
