Second Bachelor’s, Dual Degrees, and Concurrent Majors and the A&S Core Requirements
1. Students pursuing a Second Bachelor’s degree in the College of Arts and Sciences after earning a first degree from another UW college or another university and those working on two degrees at the same time with one of them in the College of A&S (Dual Degrees) must complete the 2003 A&S Core requirements ( Fall 2003 and after, includes checklist). Students whose first degree was/is a professional degree with a modified A&S Core will need to take all the remaining A&S Core requirements. A diploma is awarded for each degree.
The minimum study requirement for Second and Dual degrees includes:
· The College of A&S Core:
1. Two four-credit hour sciences with a lab with two different prefixes (e.g., Biology and Geology).
2. Three credit hours in a Non-Western course.
3. Three courses, nine credit hours in junior-senior level courses outside the department/program of the major and not cross-listed with the department. See the detailed description of this requirement at
4. Eight credit hours in a single foreign language (or competency through Clep, Language Placement Exam, AP credit). Students whose high school diploma is from a non-English speaking foreign school do not have to fulfill the foreign language requirement).
· The requirements of the major department.
· Thirty additional semester hours earned from the University of Wyoming. These credits are added to the degree requiring the least number of hours.
· Twelve of the 30 UW hours must be at the junior-senior levels or graduate level.
· Credit by examination does not count toward UW residency.
· The University Studies Program Writing A and B requirement is required of those students whose first degree is from an institution where English is not the predominant language.

2. Students may work on more than one major in one or more UW colleges as part of their degree (Concurrent major).
· The university requirements and the University Studies Program must be met only once.
· Students whose first major is in another UW college but are pursuing one or more concurrent majors in an A&S program are not required to complete the A&S Core.
· The A&S department of the concurrent major will determine the requirements needed to earn that major.
· The degree will be granted on one date only and only one diploma will be awarded. Both majors will be indicated on the academic transcript.
