Mathematics/Sciences
a Degree Program with Flexibility

At the University of Wyoming, the College of Arts and Sciences is a leader in creating academic degree programs to meet special needs and interests of students seeking a unique place in the world beyond the University. In professional environments that appreciate intelligence, imagination, independence, and ingenuity, students may find valued positions by earning a bachelor’s degree in one of the A&S Distributed majors (Humanities & Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Mathematics & Sciences) or the Self-Designed Major.  These programs meet the complex curricular interests of those who may not achieve their professional desires and goals through study in a single discipline.

Students with a broad, general interest in the organization, analysis, and application of measurement (mathematics, statistics) or the sciences, or both, may be interested in the Mathematics/Sciences major. The degree in Mathematics/Sciences is organized as a multidisciplinary program with a list of appropriate courses approved by participating departments and programs. For this major, students select four core areas of focus, but there is enough flexibility to plan a course of study to prepare for a variety of professional and career interests.

For this major, for example, if you focus your study in courses from geology, botany, and geography and learn about interrelationships of these fields to understand environmental issues, you may want to learn how to use statistics or mathematics to formulate, analyze, and interpret data to support solutions to those issues. With this degree, you may find employment in scientific industries or in local, state, or federal government, or as a technical writer.

Following are links to the descriptive checksheet for students following the requirements in this major as of fall 2003 and fall 2007, and beyond. See this list of  approved courses for all Mathematics/Sciences majors. These are also available in the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s office (Dept. 3254, University of Wyoming, 1000 E. University Ave. Laramie, WY  82071) or asdean@uwyo.edu).

All of the requirements of the University Studies Program and the College of Arts and Sciences Core must also be completed.  To check requirements http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/a&s/Current/Web-degree reqs.doc.
