Alumni Spotlight
Jack Rosenthal (B.A. 1952, History; UW Honorary Doctor of Laws, 1993)was recently appointed chairman of the Wyoming Coinage Advisory Committee by
Governor Dave Freudenthal. The committee is responsible for recommending
designs for the Wyoming
quarter
to the U.S. Treasury Department by September 2005. Jack is no stranger to
designs to represent Wyoming nor to the selection process. As chairman of
the U.S. Postal Service Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee, he helped to
select 610 designs. He found no lack of public interest with as many as
40,000 suggestions per year.
A recipient of both the UW Distinguished Alum (1982) and A&S Outstanding Alum (1991) awards, Jack’s accomplishments include a stellar career in broadcasting and genuine expertise in stamps, railroads, baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs), and Wyoming history. Jack was a major player in launching many UW projects, including the Milward Simpson Fund in Political Science, the A&S Outstanding Former Faculty Awards, and the UW Athletics Hall of Fame.
Jack is encouraging the public to participate in the coin design. Click here or check your local paper for a form to recommend subjects for the Wyoming quarter.
