Subject:                                     classroom scheduling

Dear Colleagues:

Today a variety of issues about fall 08 arose at the classroom scheduling committee meeting.  Because of the number of classroom in Business and elsewhere that will not be available, they are considering many temporary solutions including using the A&S auditorium again and even bringing in mobile classrooms.  They have run the scheduling algorithm in a worst case scenario and think that as many as 80-100 classes will not have space.

Given this situation, they urge that departments spread out their schedules.  Classes scheduled at 10 or 11 MWF and 9:35-11 TR are the ones most likely to run into scheduling difficulties.  Inform your academic personnel that scheduling flexibility is extremely important.  Schedule in off hours early and late.  I will be contacting staff shortly with this information and with technology request forms.
