Just as a point of clarification: If you are a fiscalized employee, as are almost all department heads and several directors, you are a 12 month employee of the University.  Therefore, when the University is open, any time you take off from your job is considered vacation time. For example, spring break is a break for students but not for fiscalized employees.  It has long been our policy that heads and directors should take allowed vacation time during their term as head or director.  We cannot afford to pay you for your vacation time after your term ends.  Reviewing vacation records, we find great variability.  According to these records, several of you have never taken vacation—I am assuming this is a record keeping problem.  Please check.

Thanks, Ollie

I will be in Shanghai—on University business, not vacation—but I will check e-mail regularly.  Greg and Audrey will, of course, be available for consultation also.
