FYI-Study abroad scholarship info.  Please circulate to your faculty.

 

 

Dear colleagues –

 

Attached is a fact sheet for IPO study abroad scholarships.  It contains funding policies (including, importantly, that students should apply for the ONE scholarship that fits them best – we need to be able to assist as many students as possible, so no one will get two scholarships from us).  It also contains a table summarizing the programs, criteria/eligibility, expected awards this year, and deadlines.  This should assist your faculty and advising staff in helping your students in applying for the scholarships.  This fact sheet will be embedded into all scholarship applications we give out, hard copy and electronic.

 

Note that all Cheney awards will be reduced in total funding this year due to a temporary reallocation of the endowment to the Cheney International Center.  Once the scholarship endowment is topped up, we will award larger amounts to a larger number of students, but that’s on hold for now.

 

For those of you with faculty leading courses abroad – if they have not done so already, please have them come by to chat about the funding process for those courses.  Timelines need to be adjusted for such courses, as do other parts of the process. 

 

Note that applications are not yet up on our website.  Please have students come by IPO’s office in the meantime.  I will try to work with Pat Wolfinbarger to get this up when it’s possible for him to do so.

Hi all – here is my edit to the cover sheet.  Also included are applications for the

Cheney Grant

Cheney Fellowship

Cheney Semester Support scholarship

 

Each of the above has the cover / fact sheet info at the beginning.  Every application from now on handed to students should include the fact sheet (hence I have it embedded in each)

 

If possible I will ask Wolfy to put up something on our front page about this stuff, perhaps including the applications and definitely including the fact sheet.  I will also send the fact sheet to ISS and Duncan so they’ll see our guidelines.

 

On putting these up on the site – I’m torn, but am of the mind now that they should be up on the site.  I am being inundated with email requests for forms, and it might reduce traffic.  HOWEVER, I really prefer students to come by to get coaching on these before walking off with them. 

 

What I will tell students who email me is what we should all tell them – email them the fact sheet, and ask them which application they want after they’ve read the sheet.  I say in it they should apply for the ONE that best fits their profile.

 

Hope this helps – any last minute comments on this – say by noon today – are welcome, but I’d like to get this off my back asap.
