Sustainability

The Wyoming Union is doing its part to make a difference. Union staff has been making many changes and improvements that will help the building become more sustainable and that will improve human health and safety.

 Projects in place:
  • Increased use of green seal certified cleaning products and overall cleaning programs designed for human health, safety, and the environment.
  • Installation of motion detector light switches to save on utilities.
  • Switch to florescent lights, when possible.
  • Significant increase in the number of recycling options.
  • Encouraging reuse by discounting refills for Gardens customers that bring in own cup.
  • Fair trade coffee for sale in the Gardens.
  • Union Food Serivce using compostable cups, plates, etc. when possible.
  • Replacement of carpet with carpet squares ... a more sustainable option!
Projects in progress:
  • Replacement of approximatly 120 existing single pane windows.  Project is to begin in December 2009 and be substantially complete by January 2010.

Ideas and future projects:

  • Re-design of lights in public spaces with adequate natural light.
  • Carpet replacement in conference space and lounge areas.
  • Additional motion detector light switches.
