Range Management Extension Program
The University of Wyoming Department of Renewable Resources has recently been formed by combining the Soils, Entomology, and Rangeland and Watershed Management disciplines into one integrated, complimentary unit. While this department is new, Extension Specialists within these disciplines have a long history of helping Wyoming residents address the many challenges and issues associated with natural resource management. The Extension program in soils provides soil testing and educational programs in fertility management and land reclamation. The Extension program in entomology provides educational programs in insect identification and control, and bio-control of noxious weeds. The focus of this website is the recent activities of the Extension Range Program.
Cooperative Extension provides the resource necessary to bring educational programs in rangeland ecology and watershed management "to the country", putting the University of Wyoming to work for Wyoming landowners and natural resource managers. We provide educational programming in grazing management, annual grazing behaviors, ranching systems, monitoring rangelands, rangeland advisements in addition to entomology and soil issues. Research and on-campus education remains contemporary and relevant to natural resource issues in Wyoming.Faculty Extension Specialists cooperate with County Extension Educators to provide a unique link between the University and every county in Wyoming, including the Wind River Indian Reservation. The mission of the Extension Range program is to provide accurate and objective information to address natural resource issues in Wyoming. In addition to conducting educational programs, workshops, and tours, Extension Specialists and Educators also provide one-on-one technical assistance to our diverse clientele.
Wyoming ranchers and agency personnel participate in a UW Range Monitoring Workshop in the Wind River Wilderness. This site is maintained by Randy L. Anderson.
