Teaching and Research oriented towards soil biology and biochemistry; science, history and culture of wild land soils; ecosystem management by indigenous cultures; plant nutrition as mediated by symbiotic microorganisms especially in disturbed areas including mined lands; and microbial amelioration of contaminants including hydrocarbons and toxic metals.   Administration of university research and graduate school operations.   Of primary focus are mechanisms to work jointly with degree offering programs to provide a seamless administrative mechanism for graduate students while promoting the overall research enterprise of the institution and enhancing scholarship for students, staff and faculty.
