He is perhaps best known for his work on “Accelerated Mineral Carbonation Process” to store anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in industrial solid wastes.
See: http://pubs.acs.org/cgi-bin/abstract.cgi/esthag/1991/25/i08/f-pdf/f_es00020a016.pdf

He is also well known for his work on “Arsenic Removal from Water” and Quality of “Coalbed Methane Produced Water”. He teaches courses which emphasize in water and air quality associated with land uses including climate change, energy and agriculture production, and solid waste disposal. His present research group members include 2 post-doctoral scientists, 4 Ph.D. students, and 6 M.S. students.

He received John Ellbogen Meritorious Classroom Teaching Award (2008), Bharat Gaurav and Certificate of Excellence Award (2008), Outstanding Educator-Of-The-Year Award (2006),Lawrence Meeboer Teaching Award (2003), Outstanding Master’s Thesis Advising Award for 2007, 2006, 2004, and 2003, Excellence in Advising Award (2002), and Outstanding “Advisor-Of-The-Year” Award (2001).

His current research investigations include: 1) Accelerated Mineral Carbonation of Alkaline Solid Wastes: Sequestration and Mineralization of Flue Gas Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from Coal Combustion Power Plants, 2) Arsenic Geochemistry, Groundwater Quality, and Removal Technology, 3) Coalbed Methane (CBM) Produced Water Biogeochemistry, Quality, and Beneficial Uses, and 4) Evaluation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) to Protect Groundwater Quality from Non-point Source Pollution.
