Research, teaching and service activities emphasize natural resource management and environmental sciences that have contributed to an increased understanding of ecological impacts, development of regulatory guidelines and programs supporting disturbed ecosystem reclamation. Soil and environmental chemistry research includes reclamation and revegetation, sorption of hazardous organics, chemistry of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, waste utilization, environmental impacts in agroecosystems, GIS and land-use planning issues. Educational efforts involve teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising and mentoring students and post-doctoral scientists, curricula development and coordination of a Soil Science/Water Resources option, Undergraduate Minors and Graduate Soil Science degree programs. Served as President of ASSMR and WSSS and Chair/Co-chair of SSSA S-11, WCC-21 and W-170. Presentations given at numerous special seminars, symposia, workshops and forums. Honors include Fellow of SSSA and ASA, ASSMR Reclamation Researcher of the Year, Excellence in Advising, Outstanding Teacher Recognition and Certified Professional Soil Scientist.
