Flexible Graduate Assistantship Program

The Graduate School allocates a pool of 15 supplemental graduate assistantships every two years on a competitive basis.  Criteria for evaluation are given below.  Departments are responsible for submitting a prioritized list to the Graduate School in early March, after the Graduate School requests the information.

Silvia Popa, Mathematics

The criteria for these Graduate Assistantships are:

  • Program quality.
  • Current and proposed graduate assistantship utilization and expectations.
  • Program capacity and graduate assistantship need.
  • Applicant quantity and quality.
  • Contribution to fulfilling the directives of the current Academic Plan.
  • Student mentoring guidelines.
  • Recruiting plan.

Contributing to the strengthening research and to enhancing the doctoral component of the graduate enterprise also will be evaluation metrics.  Utilization plans for the assistantships must balance a meaningful teaching experience with a research component.  Units who have received a competitive assistantship in the past from this program are eligible to apply, however, they should specifically describe the accomplishments of the past assistantship.
