Use of ultrasound, market outlook among beef topics at Meeteetse program

Learning how ultrasound can improve herds is one of three livestock topics presented from 9 a.m. to noon in Meeteetse Thursday, Nov. 12.

The sessions are at Lucille’s Cafe. Steve Paisley, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) beef cattle specialist, will present “The Use of Ultrasound Technology in Beef Cattle Management.”

In addition, John Ritten, an economist at UW’s James C. Hageman Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center near Lingle, will discuss “Cow/calf Management under Changing Conditions,” and Bridger Feuz, UW CES educator in Uinta County, will talk about “Cattle Market Outlook for 2010.” The program is free.

Ultrasound technology gives the producer specific information that allows him/her to plan cattle management to increase herd uniformity and quality at market time, according to Paisley. “With ultrasound technology, a producer can see marbling in the carcass early and take action to reach his goal,” he said.
